BE HOPEFUL
From our soaring, emblematic pines to the smallest of our filmy ferns, Norfolk Island is awash with green. Some of our plants are cherished for their beauty or rarity - others as a resource for building, weaving and cooking. Many of our endemic species flourish, while others have needed a healthy dose of community action and conservation intervention to ensure their long-term survival.
“ Even as we stare, globally, down the barrel of a sixth mass extinction, be heartened by local conservation efforts that have not only led to the recovery of several critically endangered species, but the discovery of many new endemics. Even a brand new genus of insect, hiding in plain sight on the fruits of our luxurious palms, and a new fern thriving on the forest floor.”
