Sorrel is an award winning adventurer, author, television reporter, photographer and artist with a passion for both natural & social history. She is a Fellow of the NY Explorers Club and former Chair of the Australian Geographic Society.
She is best known in Australia for her role on Getaway, and the documentary series she made for Australian Geographic, The Best of Australia.
Sorrel has also directed and written dozens of natural history and social history documentaries for Wildbear Entertainment and PBS. She has written and illustrated many books inspired by her travels - for adult readers and children - and her photographs and travelogues have appeared in magazines all over the world, including National Geographic.
In 2023, Sorrel was awarded a prestigious Churchill Fellowship. This allowed her to travel overseas to see specimens of species her island home had long lost to extinction; drawings of which you will find in the BE EMPOWERED gallery section of this website.
Her commitment to documenting the island’s biodiversity is ongoing; a fitting tribute to the colonial artists (who were the first to record Norfolk’s many natural wonders) and visiting scientists who have since followed in their footsteps, working alongside generations of islanders to ensure conservation prevails.
Her entire collection is being gifted to the Norfolk Island community to use freely for environmental awareness and promoting conservation.
